West Midlands MEP Liz Lynne will be meeting with Liberal Democrat council group leaders from across Warwickshire and the West Midlands to discuss the Department of Transport’s proposals for expanding air transport in the region. She will be meeting them at the Warwick Shire Hall at 10am on Monday 7 October.
At the Liberal Democrat Party Conference in Brighton last month, Liz and local Liberal Democrat campaigners successfully persuaded the national party to adopt policy specifically opposing the building of new airports such as the proposed one in Rugby.
Commenting on the upcoming meeting, Liz said, “We should be making the most of what we already have before even thinking about building new runways, let alone whole new airports. Some growth in air travel is inevitable over the next few decades, but the figures that the Department for Transport have come up with are highly questionable. In any case, surely we should be attempting to manage growth rather this blinkered approach of ‘predict and provide’?”
