Liberal Democrat MEP Liz Lynne is urging her constituents in the West Midlands to raise their concerns about the prospect of military action against Iraq by taking part in a world-wide protest on 15 February.
There will be a national demonstration held in London on 15 February, jointly organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Muslim Association of Britain and the Stop the War Coalition. This is part of a day of international protest, featuring demonstrations in dozens of cities around the world.
Last Thursday, Liz condemned military action against Iraq when she appeared on BBC's Question Time. The European Parliament will be debating the current situation in Iraq on Wednesday.
Encouraging people to make their voices heard by attending the protest march, Liz said:
"All the indicators of public opinion we have suggest that opposition to war with Iraq is growing. Government ministers however, would have you believe that opposition is restricted to a few fringe groups. It is for this reason that I am asking for everyone opposed to the war to be more than just a statistic and take personal action to ensure they are not ignored."
"400,000 people marched on the streets of London in September to protest about the prospect of an unjust war. With the case for military action disintegrating, I am hoping the march on 15 February will be even bigger."
"A number of local organisations are organising coaches to drive people down to the demonstration in London on 15 February. You can access a list of ones in the West Midlands by going to http://www.stopwar.org.uk/coach.asp or phoning 020 7053 2153/4/5/6.
