Liz visited the canal with Trust Chair Margaret Rowley at the end of March.
Worcestershire MEP Liz Lynne has welcomed an announcement by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Advantage West Midlands confirming first stage funding approval of £7 million for the restoration of Droitwich Canal.
Liz visited Droitwich Canal with the Chair of the Droitwich Canals Trust, Margaret Rowley on Monday. The Liberal Democrat MEP commented:
"This is excellent news and a vindication of the work of hundreds of volunteers who have been working to restore the canal for many years."
"Droitwich Canal is a major tourist attraction and this restoration will be a boost to the local economy. More importantly, it will be a major boost for the local flora and fauna, creating nearly 6 hectares of reed beds and wetland. I am delighted to see this project moving forward."
Liz is Vice President of the Droitwich Canals Trust. For more information about the Trust, see http://www.worcs.com/dct/.
