Liz campaigning for Better Law Making
Following Digby Jones director-general of the CBI, attack on Law making in the EU, West Midlands Euro-MP Liz Lynne and ELDR spokesperson on health & safety issues on the employment committee, reiterated her call for better law making throughout the EU.
Speaking today the Liberal Democrat MEP said:
"Over the last five years I have campaigned hard for better law making within the EU. Any new legislation passed by the European Parliament now has to go through an impact assessment, which assesses how it will work in practice in each member state. Unfortunately this does not apply to legislation already passed or amendments to current law."
"We need to look at current legislation and find out if it is being fully implemented equally in all member states across the EU in order to allow businesses to have a level playing field."
"Far too often, we are being expected to vote on laws without adequate research, which was the case with the Temporary Workers Agency Directive, the Vibrations Directive and the Noise Directive` to name but three."
"When the Temporary Workers Agency Directive was passed a year ago I called it "inflexible and unworkable". I also queried whether this directive like many passed by the Commission is workable in the real world."
"Labour MEPs must not force extra burdens on to UK businesses, and therefore they must also vote to retain the UK opt-out to the Working Time Directive when it is voted on tomorrow."
