On the 60th anniversary of D-Day West Midlands Euro-MP Liz Lynne has said that the European Unions biggest achievement has been preventing further conflicts between neighbouring nations in Europe.
Speaking today the Liberal Democrat MEP said:
"The 60th anniversary of D-Day brings home to us the reality of war, and how it devastated the continent of Europe for the first part of the last century. It reminds us how the EU has helped to maintain a peaceful and stable continent, and that a united Europe is much better than Europe divided.
"We must never forget that the European Union was born out of the chaos and devastation of the 2nd world war. The EUs greatest achievement has to be that European Countries have sorted out their differences in peaceful ways over the last 60 years not by war. It is so important for the future of the continent that the EU continues to embrace new countries which will hopefully prevent the events of June 6th 1944 from ever happening again."
