As the heads of state meet in Rome, to sign the EU Constitution, West Midlands Liberal Democrat MEP Liz Lynne, said that it was time for pro-europeans to set the agenda and challenge the myths put about by the eurosceptics.
Commenting she said:
"For too long those of us who believe in the EU have let the euro-sceptic press inform the British public about Europe. It is time to settle the issue that has bedevilled British politics for the best part of three decades. The referendum gives us a chance to expose the myths and challenge euro-sceptics to paint a picture of the UK outside the EU.
"I urge Tony Blair to take the Constitution seriously and to start explaining it properly to the British people. If he does not, the scaremongering of the Conservative Party and the United Kingdom Independence Party will condemn the UK to isolation within a Europe that will move forward without us.
"We have always argued that the European Union should only have influence over decisions that cannot be taken at local or National level. What the Constitution will do is make it clearer as to what should be decided at European Level and what should be left up to Member States."
