Liz Lynne meeting staff at Yew Tree Healthy Living Centre

Liz Lynne, Lib Dem MEP for the West Midlands, visited Yew Tree on Monday, to see building work on the new Healthy Living Centre on Redwood Road.

The centre, which is currently under construction, will house doctors, health visitors, district nurses and other health services when complete.

Liz Lynne and local Lib Dem councillors Sadie Smith and Mary Wilson met staff from Sandwell Primary Care Trust in their temporary home, the Yew Tree and Tamebridge Community Centre. They also heard from members of the Residents' Association about the benefits the new centre will bring local residents.

Speaking after the visit, Liz Lynne said:

"The new Healthy Living Centre is an impressive building which will give staff far greater scope to help local residents. Clearly the community has worked hard with its elected representatives to put forward exciting plans."

"I was also interested to hear of the hard work which has gone into securing European Regional Development Funds for the area."

Cllr Mary Wilson, who arranged the visit, added:

"This new building will give residents access to excellent health services, not only to treat illness but to prevent it. The staff here are doing fantastic work, and this building will give them the facilities they need to continue doing so."
