Liz Lynne, Lib Dem MEP and long time campaigner against human trafficking, today called on fans to help in the campaign against this modern day slave trade.
Speaking as many fans travel to Germany for the World Cup Liz Lynne said;
"Prostitution is legal in Germany but still there will be a number of young women and girls who have been trafficked across borders and forced into prostitution against their will. I call on all fans to be aware that if they do use prostitutes they can help by spotting those who are being used against their will and report this to the authorities"
"This isn't a question of whether prostitution is right or wrong it is a question of whether people are being coerced against their will"
"We must all unite against this abhorrent trade and make sure that this World Cup is remembered for positive sporting achievements, not for the record number of young women and girls who have been forced into sexual slavery"
Next week, as the World Cup gets underway, Liz Lynne will be questioning the European Commission on their efforts to prevent forced prostitution during the event.

Notes to editors
1. Liz Lynne is a Member of the Subcommittee on Human Rights in the European Parliament
2. German advocacy groups have predicted that as many as 40,000 to 100,000 women and girls will be bussed into the country to cover the rise in demand for prostitution and many of these could be forced to work against their will.
3. The US State Department report on Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000: Trafficking in Persons, released on the 5th June 2006, noted concerns among some nongovernmental organizations and governments over the potential for increased human trafficking in Germany during the World Cup Soccer championship. It noted that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), for example, expressed concern April 12 that between 30,000 and 60,000 women might be trafficked for sexual exploitation during the World Cup.
