Liz Lynne MEP and Co-Chair of the All Party Cancer group in the European
Parliament, welcomed the news today that people with early stage breast
cancer will receive the drug Herceptin.
Speaking today Liz Lynne said:
"This is something I have been campaigning on for sometime now. I know with
the NHS being strapped for cash it is difficult finding the money, but if it
will ultimately save lives it is worth it."
"There will also be long term savings for the NHS if breast cancer does not
reoccur in patients who take this drug."
"I congratulate the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence
(NICE) for coming to the right decision and let us hope we can now see the
end of the postcode lottery in Herceptin treatment."

2. Herceptin has been shown to benefit women with HER2 positive breast
cancer - around 20% of all breast cancer cases.
3. More than 5,000 women in the UK and potentially hundreds of men, would be
suitable to use Herceptin.
