Young men need to start eating more fruit and vegetables if they want to cut the risks of bone disease when they are older - that is the message from county Lib Dem MEP Liz Lynne ahead of World Osteoporosis Day on the Friday 20th October.

According to the National Osteoporosis Society, evidence suggests that individuals who eat more fruit and vegetables may have a higher bone mineral content, which is associated with healthier bones.

And although women and girls are picking up the health messages about eating more fruit and vegetables, young men are lagging behind.

Liz Lynne MEP said:

"For young men, the idea of getting old and having diseased bones probably feels a million miles away, but they must be made aware of the importance of nutrition as they grow and the fact that a bit more fruit now will help them to stay active in later life"

"I hope that World Osteoporosis Day will send a strong message to young men, their parents, schools and the Government that simply eating more fruit and vegetables can cut the risks of this debilitating disease."
