West Midlands MEP Liz Lynne has welcomed the European Parliament's approval today of a report on a new European air traffic management system, SESAR.
Speaking from Strasbourg, Liz said:
"A significant part of the pollution caused by aircraft occurs because of the current air traffic control system.
"Very often, aircraft are sent by longer routes or left circulating in holding positions simply because the current air traffic control systems working on old technologies cannot cope.
"The new SESAR system is set to deliver a cut in greenhouse gas emissions of 4-6% per flight, through more efficient air traffic control."
