Liz Lynne today backed a report calling for the creation of a European Charter of Patient Rights and new measures to facilitate cross border treatment. Speaking from Strasbourg today Liz said;
With increasing numbers of people travelling to other European countries and receiving health services, it is vital that we work towards common rights for patients, whilst of course ensuring that the UK retains control over its national health services."
"What matters is that patients get the best possible care, whether they need treatment on holiday or pay for services abroad privately."
"With the Government in disarray over the NHS and hospital closures, many people may choose to seek treatment in another European Country and this has to be well regulated, so that patient safety is guaranteed."
"The idea of a European Charter on Patients rights to secure access, quality and safety for those receiving services in all Member States will be an important step forward and I am glad that today it received the backing of Parliament."
