Local MEP Liz Lynne last week had her blood pressure taken in the European Parliament as part of Worldwide Stroke Prevention Day 2007.

Commenting today from Brussels Liz said:

"The fact is 80 % of stokes are preventable and yet most of us know someone affected by this condition"

"High Blood pressure, smoking and lack of exercise all dramatically increase the chance of a stroke and we must ensure that individuals are aware of the risks they are exposing themselves to; having a stroke leaves up to a third of people permanently disabled."

Stroke Prevention Day 2007 was celebrated in the European Parliament on Thursday 10th May with a display in collaboration with SAFE - the stroke alliance for Europe.
