Liz Lynne, Liberal Democrat MEP for the West Midlands has today welcomed the launch of a new police system across the West Midlands which uses the media to notify the public of a missing child.
Liz hopes that if successful in the region it can be promoted in other EU countries as an example of best practice, at the same time covering the region's holidaymakers.
West Midlands, West Mercia, Staffordshire and Warwickshire police forces are working together on the scheme which is used in the US.
Commenting today from Strasbourg Liz said:
"I am delighted that this new missing child information service will be rolled out across the region."
"If the service proves successful my hope is that the scheme can be spread to other EU countries, as an example of best practice, in doing so providing more support for the region's holidaymakers "
"One wonders that if such a system were in place in Portugal it might have aided the search for Madeleine McCann"
