Liz meeting EQUAL delegates and staff in Brussels
Liberal Democrat West Midlands MEP Liz Lynne, Vice - President of the European Parliament's Employment and Social Affairs Committee, yesterday delivered a keynote speech at a reception and exhibition held in the West Midlands European office in Brussels to celebrate the completion at the end of this year of eight different EQUAL programmes in the region.
EQUAL is a EU funded initiative under the European Social Fund designed to help a range of target groups with a particular focus on equality issues associated with gender, disability, race or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, and sexual orientation. The initiative also supports the social and vocational integration of asylum seekers/refugees.
Speaking after the event Liz said;
"The initiatives delivered under the Equal programme have been a resounding success for the region and show the difference that EU funded projects can make."
"Delivery of these initiatives has seen our region working closely with regions in other Member States to share best practice and promote fresh thinking in delivering social policies; this is the way forward for the EU."
