West Midlands Euro-MP Liz Lynne has welcomed the activities and message of this week's European Parliament Green Week. Activities included a climate change conference, product demonstrations and an exhibition aimed at pushing green issues up the agenda.

Speaking today from Brussels, Liz said:

"I am pleased that the European Union's institutions are starting to take such issues, including their own carbon footprint more seriously since I last spoke on the issue."

"We can all do more to help cut down our environmental impact and many Members of the European Parliament are now looking more closely at things like recycling paper and food packaging, lighting and means of travel."

"I am sure that Green Week has encouraged more MEPs to reduce their carbon footprint and they will in turn encourage others to do the same."

Notes to editors:

As can be seen from the photos from the European Parliament's exhibition, the crushed cans take only half the energy to transport as the non-crushed cans. Naturally, twice as many crushed cans can fit into each sack. One sack of cans also contains enough aluminium to produce the bicycle.
