Liz Lynne MEP with members of the Warwickshire Federation of Women's Institutes on 'Understanding Europe Day' in Southam
Local Euro MP Liz Lynne has today celebrated 'Understanding Europe Day' with the Warwickshire Federation of Women's Institutes in Southam.
Liberal Democrat MEP Liz spoke today about her life and work as a European parliamentarian and explained the workings of the EU institutions. She also talked about the challenges facing the European Union before the floor opened to a lively question and answer session.
Speaking after the visit, Liz Lynne said:
"It was a pleasure to meet everyone and to learn about their valuable community work and campaigning. I was also pleased to be able to explain a little about what I do, where I work and how it affects the daily lives of people here and across the West Midlands region.
"There is a lot of information and misinformation about what the EU does and doesn't do, so I was delighted that the Women's Institute organised an 'Understanding Europe Day' to celebrate our continent and to help shed some extra light on the workings of the European institutions."
"This year sees fifty years since the Treaty of Rome was signed with the aim of peacefully uniting Europe after the Second World War. Today has been a great opportunity to remember this historic event and to remember that whatever our differences and political opinions this period of peace and stability is worth celebrating."
