Liz Lynne MEP recycling her Christmas cards, with staff at W.H.Smith today ( 7/1/08)
West Midlands region Euro MP Liz Lynne is encouraging local people to think of the environment when disposing of Christmas cards and decorations recently taken down.
Recycling her Christmas cards in her constituency today, Liz said:
"It is shocking that so many of the one billion cards sent and the extra 500 million drinks cans and 750 million bottles and jars used over the festive period end up in the bin. People often forget that so much seasonal waste can be recycled.
"Used cards can be returned to several high street shop chains, whereas wrapping paper and many decorations can be used again or recycled and natural trees can be composted. Unwanted gifts can also be donated to charity.
"Sparing a thought for these small things can make a huge difference to the environment and cut down on the extra waste there often is at this time of year."
