The ongoing isolation of Gaza amounts to a humanitarian disaster and a political failure according to a strongly worded European Parliament resolution adopted by MEPs today in Strasbourg.
Liz Lynne MEP, (ALDE, UK), a member of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights co-authored the resolution. She said:
"The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has reached a catastrophic level; the people of Gaza are slowly having the life wrung out of them, ensuring the transmission of hatred, injustice and poverty to a new generation of young Palestinians."
"The EU institutions must do all they can to safeguard human rights in Gaza and help to end what can only be described as the collective punishment of an entire civilian population, in contravention of international humanitarian law"
