MEPs, up until July 2009, had the cost of their travel from home to work reimbursed at a flat rate on the basis of distance and mode of transport, it then changed and it is now reimbursed at cost. Travel elsewhere (outside the UK) on official Parliamentary business is reimbursed at cost. In both cases, proof of travel is required. Liz Lynne MEP received €34,742.15 in 2009.

We have audited the accounts for the General Expenditure Allowance from the books, records and explanations provided to us by Liz Lynne MEP for the year ended 31st December 2009 and confirm that they comply with the rules on the use of allowances set out in Article 13 of the European Parliament rules governing the payment of expenses and the Liberal Democrat Code of Conduct for MEP`s, as agreed at the LDEPP AGM on 15th July 2009.

Liz Lynne reimbursed £15,945 to the European Parliament due to an under- spend on her General Expenditure Allowance. The under-spend was partly due to the favourable exchange rate. There was a charge of £30 for this bank transfer and £3,000 has been kept for a contingency fund.
Liz Lynne MEP is committed to openness and transparency in the way she carries out her duties as MEP for the West Midlands Region and in declaring expenses incurred by her office for carrying out those duties.

Mobile and landline phone bills: Liz Lynne reimburses a percentage of these phone bills to take account of personal use, as agreed by the auditors at the end of the year.
